| | More Info: | Self-injury refers to deliberate, self-inflicted tissue damage, such as cutting or burning. Self-injury has reached alarming proportions amongst our youth, with North American studies indicating adolescent prevalence of between 14 and 18 percent. Helping professionals are therefore increasingly encountering young people who are engaging in self-injury. This workshop will begin with a general overview to assist participants in understanding the experience and motivations of adolescents who intentionally injure themselves. The content will then focus on practical strategies for working with youth struggling with this complex issue. Participants will leave this workshop with increased insight regarding self-injury behaviour in youth and direction for effective interventions.

Through the creative interplay of audio, video, text panels, bold graphics and interactive components, BRIDGESTHATUNITE challenges visitors to confront typical assumptions about what international development is and what it can achieve -- and injects evidence about Canada’s own experience into the public debate.
Accompanying the exhibition is a robust programming component, including:

The exhibition focuses on the African Canadian community in North Buxton, Ontario- a community comprised of many freed slaves who settled in Canada.
The exhibition showcases artifacts loaned from the Buxton Museum and items from the Ontario Black History Society, including quilts, photographs, tools of the trade and a variety of black cloth dolls.

- Time for each member to give a brief recap of their progress on last week's goals, and receive feedback on current challenges and successes;
- A main group session (see below);
- Goal/intention setting for the next week.
The main session might consist of:
- a speaker or coaching session;
- if a member identifies a special issue that they are having IN ADVANCE of the meeting, we can focus on brainstorming solutions for her;
- a member sharing what they have learned from a course or book they have read.
Please note: you don't have to attend every meeting (and especially not both weekday sets of meetings). |
