TARRAGON PRESENTS
THE REAL WORLD?
by Michel Tremblay
translated by Bill Glassco and John Van Burek | directed by Richard Rose
"When can we expect the great revelation?”
Tarragon Theatre proudly presents Michel Tremblay’s groundbreaking classic The Real World? in an English translation by John Van Burek and Bill Glassco, which originally premiered at Tarragon almost 25 years ago.
The final show of Tarragon’s 2011-2012 season, The Real World? is directed by the theatre’s Artistic Director Richard Rose and previews April 24, opens May 2 and closes June 3, 2012 in Tarragon Theatre’s Mainspace. Tickets range from $20-$51 (inclusive of HST) and are available by calling the box office at 416.531.1827 or by visiting www.tarragontheatre.com
This new production of The Real World? features a powerhouse cast: Matthew Edison, Cara Gee, Sophie Goulet, Tony Nappo, Cliff Saunders, Jane Spidell and Meg Tilly.
The mother of a precocious young playwright takes issue with his latest play: not only does it put private family matters centre stage, it liberally blends fiction with truth. Should or can playwrights truly "write what they know"? If they use their family members as characters in a play, what happens when those family members object to their theatrical selves? A play within a play, The Real World? remains a groundbreaking work about art, autobiography and authority.

Jonathan Larson’s groundbreaking RENT reinvented musicals when it opened in 1996. Set in New York City’s East Village, RENT is a modern take on the classic Puccini opera, La Boheme and tells the unforgettable tale of a group of young friends and artists learning to survive, falling in love, finding their voices and living for today. An inspiring story, RENT tackles addiction, poverty, AIDS and most of all, love.
The cast worked diligently with top theatre professionals to create this original production. The original artistic team for Theatre Sheridan’s RENT included some of Canada’s leading theatrical practitioners: Director Lezlie Wade, Musical Director Bob Foster, Choreographer Marc Kimelman, Costume and Set Designer Brandon Kleiman, Lighting Designer Kevin Fraser and Sound Designer Todd Charlton.
